Colin Howard

Colin Howard was born in England and was educated at Prince Henry's Grammar School, Worcestershire, the University of London (LLB, 1955; LLM, 1956) and the University of Melbourne. He came to Australia in 1958 having been appointed lecturer in law at the University of Queensland. In 1960, he became senior lecturer in law at the University of Adelaide and was appointed Hearn Professor of Law at the University of Melbourne in 1965. He held this post until 1990, serving as dean of law from 1978 to 1983.

From 1973–6, he was General Counsel to the Commonwealth Attorney-General. His many books include Companies: What They Are and How They Work; The Constitution, Power and Politics and Australian Criminal Law. He became a Queen's Counsel in 1996.
