Marbles Matches

Marbles Matches became an annual tradition during the 1950s, when the passionate rivalry between Law and Engineering students was fought out on the sports field. Former law student, Armida Poli recalls 'No matter who won, there was always a dispute about the outcome, and the students had a ready supply of ammunition in the form of rotten fruit and flour bombs with which to pelt the opposition.'

In 1960 under the front-page headline 'And so the Battle Rages!', Farrago reported of the Marbles Match that 'apart from the mud-throwing incident, the rag was the quietest for years.' Nonetheless, the fun was over, for in 1961 the headline instead read 'Marbles Match Off!'
